Can I Get To Know You?

I want to create an online course just for you.

by Tasha McGlashan on August 25, 2022

Hello my friends.

I have had a challenging couple of weeks trying to build a course and recovering from jaw surgery. I am doing better than two weeks ago but I am anxious to heal fully.

Having said that, how are YOU doing? How has your week been going? Are you ok?

For those of you that haven’t been following, my name is Tasha and I live with bipolar disorder type 2.

I was diagnosed in 2013 after I was medically retired from the Navy. I have since been trying to create my own business.

Before I went into the Navy, I wanted to be a fashion designer. After receiving a Bachelor and a Master degree in Fashion Design, I decided to take an element of my senior collection that I truly enjoyed and base my business after that.

I used indigo and different fabrics made from cotton. I decided to create hand-dyed throw pillows made from 100% hemp.

Hemp is a sustainable fiber and it’s healthier to produce than cotton, that is why I chose to use hemp exclusively.

I also wanted to tie in my business with the mental health community. It took me a long time to figure it out.

I remember reading a blog post called Hyperbole in a Half and the author had shared her experiences as well as her bout with depression using a cute caricature of herself.

Other examples of people using their creativity are Gemma Correll, Bipolar Bandit, Rare Mental Health, and many more to share how it feels to live with depression, anxiety, or eating disorders.

Social media is their medium in getting their message out to educate people. You can do this too.

That’s when I came up with Ella the Bipolar Throw Pillow. My shop focuses on a “cartoon” version of my throw pillows that have their own names and ways that they deal with their symptoms.

Ella and her friends are meant to be companions to you because they care about you and want to hang out with you. They are meant to be squeezed, held, and slept on.

Right now, I have an idea about how I can help other people living with a mental illness to share what it's like in a safe way without feeling overly exposed or unsafe.

Even if they feel like they are not qualified to teach or if they don’t feel like they are creative enough, I still want to help them.

Can You Fill Out A Short Survey For Me, Please?

I have a course idea that I want to share with you. I want to give credit to a man that I met at a graduation ceremony in June.

He suggested that I create a course on how to teach people living with a mental illness how to come up with their own “Ella”.

I was taken aback when he said it and I mean that in a good way. It was truly a lightbulb moment for me.

So, I would like to validate this course idea. By taking this survey, this course idea could actually morph into something completely different based on your answers and I’m okay with that. I really want to help people like us boldly and confidently talk about a subject that is still underserved and underrepresented.

Click the box below and it will take you to the survey. Your answers will help me narrow down and focus on how you learn best and what you want or need to learn to live a healthier and happier life despite your illness.

Thank you for your time and I truly appreciate and value you.
